Big Shoulders Fund’s mission is simple. We provide support to schools with demonstrated need which provide a quality, values-based education for Chicago’s children. Big Shoulders Fund is unique in that our administrative expenses are supported by an endowment and other income. One hundred percent of funds currently raised support four major areas – scholarships and enrichment, operational improvements, academic programs, and leadership development – with the goal of not just strengthening schools, but whole communities, and preparing students for life-long success.
Board Member duties & responsibilities:
Founded in 2007, the Big Shoulders Fund Auxiliary Board is comprised of a group of young professionals dedicated to supporting the mission of Big Shoulders Fund through volunteering, outreach, and fundraising. They raise funds for the Auxiliary Board Scholarship which supports six schools and nearly 100 scholars annually across the City of Chicago.
Now in its 17th year, the Big Shoulders Fund Auxiliary Board has become one of the fastest growing young professional boards in Chicago. Members are invited to a variety of networking events, socials, and an annual soiree in September called our Big Shoulders Fund Ball.
Currently, more than 150 active members are hosting events, volunteering, and engaging with our network of schools. Members have brought unparalleled dedication and boundless energy to Big Shoulders Fund’s mission.
As a member, you will play an active role in making a difference in the lives of 25,000 students at 72 Chicago schools with other like-minded young professionals.
Board term & limits:
Membership is annual and based on fulfilling expectations which are to pay the annual dues, volunteer at least once a year and attend a networking or fundraising event at least once a year.
